Gonbad-e Qabus
Golestan · IRAN DIGITAL WALL

Trace the vertical edges before taking in the tower as a whole. Gonbad-e Qabus rises 53 metres from a ten-pointed star plan to a conical roof, turning repeated brick forms into a remarkably clear structural composition. Built in 1006 for Qabus ibn Voshmgir, the learned Ziyarid ruler, it also recalls a setting shaped by patronage and learning. Its UNESCO World Heritage recognition provides context, but the most immediate reward is visual: seeing how the plan, rising body and roof depend on one another. The visit makes early Islamic engineering legible through geometry.
