The southern slopes of the Central Alborz form the backdrop to Taleghan Dam Lake, a reservoir on the Shahroud River. Here, the broad surface of the water makes the surrounding peaks, pasture and villages easier to read as a connected landscape. It is a good counterpoint to a journey through narrower mountain valleys: pause to observe the shoreline, the scale of the slopes and the changing light.
