Naiband’s value lies in the closeness of very different coastal environments. Near Asaluyeh, the national marine park contains sandy beaches, sheltered bays, cliffs and mangrove forests, each part of a wider system of marine habitats. It was Iran’s first national marine park, a distinction that helps explain the importance of this stretch of Persian Gulf shoreline. Dolphins, sea turtles and migratory birds belong to its natural life, but a visit should not depend on spotting them. Look instead at how land and water meet, and at the variety of habitats within that meeting.
