Siraf
Bushehr · IRAN DIGITAL WALL

The sea is never far from the remains at Siraf. Between steep hills and the Persian Gulf, rock-cut graves, water reservoirs and surviving buildings give shape to a trading port that flourished from Sasanian times into the early Islamic centuries. Its connections reached India, China and East Africa. Rather than rushing from ruin to ruin, pause to consider the narrow coastal setting: ships and long-distance commerce once made this confined strip of land part of a much wider world. Siraf is on UNESCO’s Tentative List, a proposal stage distinct from World Heritage inscription.
