Near Shahroud, Cloud Forest reveals how much Semnan’s landscape can change. It lies at the eastern edge of the Hyrcanian forests, where humid Caspian air meets the drier Iranian Plateau. Under suitable conditions, clouds spill over wooded slopes and produce the celebrated sea-of-clouds scene. That phenomenon is not assured, so the forest deserves attention beyond a hoped-for photograph. Its position between different climatic settings is itself the reason to come.
