Tarikhaneh in Damghan is among Iran’s oldest surviving mosques, dating to the second half of the eighth century, possibly earlier. Its columned prayer hall combines a hypostyle plan with traditional Sasanian construction techniques. The adjoining cylindrical minaret is later: a Kufic building inscription dates it to 1027–28, in the name of Abu Harb Bakhtiar.
