Hamadan

An ancient capital beneath Mount Alvand

At the foot of Alvand, Hamadan brings urban history into a mountain setting. Hegmataneh, an ancient seat of government and UNESCO World Heritage property, offers a starting point, alongside Ganjnameh and the tombs of Avicenna and Baba Taher.

Beyond the city, Ali Sadr’s water cave and Lalejin’s pottery workshops broaden the trip into nature and craft. Malayer and Tuyserkan add orchards, dried fruit and woodworking traditions to a journey through the province.

Baba Taher Mausoleum

On a hill in northern Hamadan, the Mausoleum of Baba Taher honours a poet of spare and profound Persian quatrains. The modern geometric monument, tiles bearing his verses and the open setting offer a quiet introduction to the emotional, popular voice of Iranian poetry.
