Notice where the forest starts to loosen into open ground. That transition is the central attraction of the Asalem–Khalkhal Road, which climbs from the humid Caspian side towards Ardabil’s high meadows. Wooded sections, pasture and winding mountain passes follow one another within a relatively short journey. Mist can obscure the wider scene, so the experience is not dependent on an uninterrupted panorama. Watching changes in vegetation and terrain gives the route its coherence. It is a way to understand the contrast between coastal moisture and upland landscapes through movement, rather than through a single viewpoint.
