Si-o-se-pol shows how a bridge can become part of a city’s social space. Built in the early seventeenth century under Allahverdi Khan, its thirty-three arches link the Chahar Bagh avenues on either side of the Zayandeh Rud. Crossing and gathering were both part of its purpose, which gives the architecture a meaning beyond transport. Repetition is the visual theme: follow the arches along the span, especially as evening and night lighting give them definition. River levels vary, and the structure’s rhythm remains visible even when the channel has little water.
