Kal Jeni draws the eye upwards to high walls, then sideways into the turns of a narrow canyon near Tabas. Water and wind have worked the rock into winding passages, while channels and carved traces in some sections show that people also shaped this dry environment. The appeal is in reading both processes together: natural erosion and human effort occupy the same confined space. Plan the outing with a local guide and appropriate preparation; the canyon’s powerful scenery does not make its route straightforward.
