The broad wetland of Choghakhor brings a softer foreground to the Zagros Mountains. Aquatic plants and surrounding open pasture distinguish this highland habitat from the rocky country beyond it. Migratory birds form part of its ecological importance, though their presence varies through the year. Because the lagoon is seasonal, the amount of open water also changes; snow on the mountain frame depends on the conditions. Those variations are part of the place, rather than a defect in the view. A visit is an opportunity to observe the relationship between wetland, pasture and mountain.
