Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari

Springs and wetlands of the Bakhtiari highlands

Water begins much of the story in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari. Zard Kuh’s heights and Kouhrang’s springs help form the headwaters of the Karun and Zayandeh Rud, linking snowy mountain terrain to rivers beyond the province. Choghakhor, a Ramsar-listed wetland, brings a different water landscape and important bird habitat into the Zagros highlands.

Use Shahrekord as a starting point for the province’s towns and Bakhtiari culture. Textiles and traditional clothing connect the journey with local craft, while Saman’s walnut and almond orchards show cultivated country alongside the mountains. Spring and summer generally suit outdoor exploration in this cold region; snow, flowering and wetland water levels still follow their own seasonal conditions.

Zard Kuh

Sharp ridges and snowfields give Zard Kuh its highland profile. One of the Zagros’s highest massifs, it is also a source area for two major river systems, with Bakhtiari summer pastures linking the mountain to seasonal life.

Kouhrang Springs

Follow the idea of water upstream in Kouhrang, a snowy mountain region feeding the Karun and Zayandeh Rud. Dimeh Spring and the nearby inverted-tulip plain place these headwaters within a landscape shaped by Bakhtiari seasonal life.

Dezpart

Oak woodland, deep valleys and Karun-basin waterways define Dezpart in southwestern Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari. Mountain routes and remote villages add a lived scale to the Zagros scenery, making the relationship between settlement and terrain the main subject.

Siasard

Cool running water and mature trees are Siasard’s simple invitation. This spring-fed recreation area near Borujen is a local summer retreat, giving a journey through Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari a quieter pause in the mountain air.
