Hegmataneh
Hamadan · IRAN DIGITAL WALL

Hegmataneh asks you to think in layers rather than in a single reign. Known as the Median capital and the Ecbatana of classical sources, it sustained urban life for nearly three millennia. Remains associated with Median, Achaemenid, Parthian and Sasanian eras point to a long-lived seat of power and summer capital. Reading those successive periods together is more rewarding than expecting a complete city from one moment in time. Inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2024, the site gives Hamadan’s ancient identity a concrete setting and a much longer perspective.
