At Meymand, architecture begins with space removed from soft rock rather than walls assembled above ground. The ancient settlement belongs to a semi-arid mountain setting, which gives the carved dwellings their wider context. Yet the village cannot be understood through its interiors alone. A semi-nomadic way of life links these homes with surrounding seasonal pastures. Looking between the dwellings and the landscape helps explain that connection: the village is both a place to stay and part of a pattern of movement shaped by the seasons.
