The hill beneath Falak-ol-Aflak gives the castle a strong presence in Khorramabad’s centre, with the city and river below its round towers. Brick walls enclose a building that has served several purposes, including administration, military use and imprisonment. Its museums now turn that accumulated history into a starting point for understanding Lorestan. The archaeology and anthropology collections complement the exterior: one part of the visit concerns the fortress and its changing roles, the other the wider province whose history and culture it now presents.
