Khorheh’s two standing stone columns make a striking first impression, but the archaeological site extends beyond them. Near Mahallat, surviving rooms, corridors and finds point to Seleucid, Parthian and Sasanian phases in a substantial ancient building. The Ionic capitals invite a closer look at the columns’ form, while the surrounding remains help restore a sense of the larger structure. Resist treating the pair only as an isolated landmark. Their value grows when seen against the building’s footprint and the valley-and-mountain setting in which the rest has largely disappeared.
