Saluk National Park

Saluk National Park protects several kinds of mountain habitat within the Kopet Dag. Steppe, juniper woodland and deep valleys create transitions worth noticing across the landscape. Wild sheep and goats, leopard and birds of prey belong to the park’s fauna, but their presence is not a promise of sightings. The more dependable focus is the terrain and vegetation that sustain them. Looking at how wooded slopes give way to open steppe helps explain the value of the protected area. It is a place to understand mountain habitats as a connected system rather than a wildlife checklist.
