Chehel Sotoun makes Qazvin’s time as a Safavid capital tangible without demanding the scale of a vast palace. Also called the Kolah Farangi pavilion, it is among the few royal buildings left from Shah Tahmasp’s period here. Its two-storey halls and wooden windows frame murals whose layers belong to several artistic eras. The calligraphy museum gives that architectural encounter a further dimension. Look between the surfaces of the building and the art of writing: this is a place where painted decoration and deliberate lines both invite slower, closer attention.
