Sa’d al-Saltaneh works best as a sequence of spaces, rather than a monument viewed from one spot. In central Qazvin, this Qajar complex joins courtyards, chambers and market lanes beneath brick domes. Skylights change the character of the covered passages, and the grand bazaar crossroads gives a sense of how merchants once moved through the ensemble. Restored areas now contain craftspeople, shops and cafés. Their activity makes the trading architecture easier to understand as a place of exchange. Allow time for the transitions between enclosed lanes and open courts.
