Jamkaran Mosque
Qom · IRAN DIGITAL WALL

Jamkaran is best understood through the scale of its gathering spaces. Southeast of Qom, the important Shia pilgrimage mosque has broad courtyards, blue domes and minarets that give large assemblies an architectural setting. Tuesday evenings are especially lively, while illumination after dark changes the relationship between the buildings and the sky. Its value within a Qom itinerary is the chance to consider a different expression of pilgrimage from the central shrine. Look at the open courts alongside the mosque itself: collective presence and ample space are central to its character.
