Northeast of Qom, Hoz-e Soltan makes the horizon and the condition of the ground the main subjects of a visit. This seasonal spread of shallow water and salt changes extent with rainfall. A thin film of water over the salt crust can reflect the sky, but that mirror effect is conditional rather than a permanent feature. The reason to see it is the shifting relationship between water, pale ground and open space. Marshy sections require safe routes and informed local guidance, so the day’s terrain should shape any approach.
