Mount Damavand
Mazandaran · IRAN DIGITAL WALL

Damavand rises in Amol County in the central Alborz as Iran’s highest peak and a volcano. Its cone, often seen with snow, carries meanings of endurance in Persian myth and literature, so the mountain has a cultural presence as well as a physical one. Glaciers and sulphurous springs reveal different aspects of its mountain and volcanic environment. A visit need not be defined by reaching the top: the form and surrounding landscape also deserve attention. Summit plans, however, require serious preparation and professional guidance; the symbolic mountain is also a demanding high-altitude destination.
