On the slopes of Sahand, Kandovan’s cone-shaped rock formations contain homes that are still inhabited. Looking at the village, you see a hillside of natural forms adapted for domestic life, with stone and housing occupying the same view. Local guesthouses, honey and handwoven textiles bring the visitor encounter into the village’s present. Kandovan was selected among UN Tourism’s Best Tourism Villages in 2023, a recognition distinct from UNESCO World Heritage. Leave room for residents as you look at the cones: the houses, local products and everyday activity all belong to the village you have come to see.
