Tabriz’s covered bazaar makes East Azerbaijan’s trading past tangible through places that still work. Brick passages and courts carry the memory of Silk Road connections into present-day commerce. Nearby, the Blue Mosque’s surviving tiles and the Constitutional House turn attention to different chapters of architecture and political history.

Beyond the city, Sahand’s slopes hold Kandovan’s inhabited rock-cut homes, recognised by UN Tourism in 2023. Arasbaran’s forests and the Aras valley change the landscape again. St. Stepanos Monastery near Jolfa and Maragheh’s monuments allow a provincial route to connect urban exchange, religious architecture and mountain country, rather than remaining focused on Tabriz alone.

Tabriz Bazaar

Brick-covered lanes still carry the commerce of Tabriz. This UNESCO-listed bazaar links trading courts, caravanserais, mosques and schools in a living urban network, where the city’s old east–west connections remain legible in the spaces of exchange.

Blue Mosque

Lapis and turquoise fragments carry the Blue Mosque’s story. This fifteenth-century survivor of the Mozaffariyeh complex combines delicate geometry and calligraphy with the visible legacy of earthquake damage and restoration, making close looking more rewarding than a quick glance.

Kandovan

Rock cones become homes on the slopes of Sahand at Kandovan, an inhabited village recognised by UN Tourism in 2023. Honey, woven textiles and local guesthouses keep its unusual architecture connected to present-day rural life.

El Goli

A pavilion in a historic pool gives El Goli its familiar silhouette. Around it, the garden and public promenade bring a long-lived Tabriz water landscape into everyday use, with reflections and evening lights changing the scene.

St. Stepanos Monastery

Near Jolfa and the Aras, St Stepanos places carved stone and a conical dome within a mountain valley. Its enclosed courtyard gives you space to pause and discover Armenian architectural details at close range.
