Bisotun
Kermanshah · IRAN DIGITAL WALL

At Bisotun, the stone matters because of what was said and shown upon it. Darius I’s relief and trilingual inscription bring visual and written statements together in a single monument. The site is fundamental to the study of Achaemenid history and ancient languages, and is inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Consider the relationship between the image and the text while viewing the work. Even without reading the languages, the decision to give a royal account such a lasting stone form provides a strong reason to pause here.
